Full-Mouth Reconstruction with the Waterbury Dentist
January 18, 2016
Fortunately, dentistry has a solution for almost every dental or oral health problem. Whether you are dealing with broken and missing teeth, diseased gums or crooked teeth and a misaligned bite, Drs. Marini and Mancini at Waterbury Smiles can help you have a beautiful smile and healthy mouth. For some of our patients, restoring dental health necessitates planning a number of different restorative and cosmetic procedures. We call this full-mouth reconstruction. With your input, the dentist Waterbury trusts will develop a treatment plan to fully restore your smile.
Also known as full-mouth restoration or full-mouth rehabilitation, this multi-faceted procedure can be designed to repair and replace teeth, restore gum health, correct malocclusion and treat the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ. Because several disciplines may be necessary to repair your smile, the dentists at Waterbury Smiles may call on the expertise of trusted colleagues including an orthodontist, periodontist, endodontist or oral surgeon. Regardless of how many other professionals are needed for your full-mouth reconstruction, we will always be the managers of your care that you can call on for explanations or consultation.
For dental reconstruction, the process begins with a thorough examination of:
Teeth. We will analyze the condition of your teeth in order to decide what kinds of restorative or cosmetic procedures are necessary, such as tooth-colored fillings, dental crowns, porcelain veneers, bridges, dentures or partials, inlays or onlays.
Gum tissue. If we find signs of gingivitis—gums that are red, swollen and bleed easily—or periodontitis, which is marked by enlarged gum pockets and loose or even missing teeth, then periodontal therapy may be necessary. This may require root scaling and planing to remove tartar and an application of a topical antibiotic to treat infection.
Jaw muscles and occlusion. One of the dentists will check your bite to make sure you are not in any pain when opening or closing your mouth, an indication of TMJ. Likewise, the proper alignment of your bite can be an important component of your smile makeover in Waterbury and this may necessitate orthodontic treatment.
Once this examination is complete and we’ve gathered all the necessary information, including x-rays, impressions and photographs, we’ll develop a treatment plan. Step-by-step, this plan corrects all of the problems in your mouth so you can enjoy an attractive smile and all the benefits of optimal oral health.
